Kunstraum LLC is proud to present Kunstraum Members Summer Show. Kunstraum strives to provide a creative community for artists to exchange ideas and practices, to network and benefit from each other’s experiences. This exhibition showcases some of the talent that is fostered in our studios, providing both known and emerging artists the opportunity to show their work together. The ten artists in the Kunstraum Members Summer Show represent our community: diversity in media, age, nationality, and gender. The Kunstraum Members Summer Show is the culmination of our mission as an artist hub and incubator.

Ben DuVall layers concrete poetry with digital drawing and construction paper cut-outs, teasing out how the silkscreen exposure process both conceals and reveals. Christy Bencosme’s piece responds to New York neighborhood changes and how it is affecting the community. Erin Rouse’s multi-media sculpture exhibits the crossovers between Colombo and Lily Tomlin in 9-5. Iván Sikic’s piece is part of a series that questions how the human species will need to co-exist with the trash that we create. Karen Holt’s paintings of “fleshy blobs” extend beyond the frame to find their pace in the world.

Nichole Shinn explores the visual imagery associated with adolescent female sexuality through her paintings on novelty fabrics. Textile artist and printmaker Ariel Kitch showcases her “soft sculptures” in a series. Nancy Elsamanoudi’s work represents the energy and tension created in the merging of culture and nature. Kurt Woerpel experiments with the concept of the digital line through more traditional drawing media. Andrea Halbfinger draws on her experience with movement and dance in her colorful canvases. Robert Costello’s paintings are the visual result of piecing together meaning while trying to look behind “the curtain.”

Kunstraum LLC, a gallery and studio community, opened in early 2015 by the Navy Yard in Brooklyn. As an interdisciplinary team of curators, artists, and architects, we seek to promote local and international emerging art and outstanding art concepts. By opening our gallery to different art professionals interested in sharing engaging ideas, unconventional thinking, and risk-taking, Kunstraum pushes the parameters of emerging, international, contemporary art. Recent projects include Video Shop, awarded the Artspace Fairgoers’ Award at NADA NY and features in Interview Magazine, ArtNet and Vice.
