"A body detached from all that was other than itself would be hopelessly incomplete, divorced from the means of its own sustainability. A body must complete itself in order to maintain itself; it must not remain as some detached fragment but must be united or coupled with a world, open to what is not merely itself."
- Claire Colbrook, Time and Autopoiesis: The Organism Has No Future, 2011
As we find ourselves in a tightening grip with volatile ecological conditions, we begin to fathom what it means to exist in the Anthropocene, what deep time entails, and what is left for us to embrace beyond human cognition. To embrace is to connect, to reconnect, to empathize, to submit, to be vulnerable, to seek solace, to convey a desire to transcend ourselves. With this gesture in mind, each artist deals with intensities of what Donna Haraway calls a "becoming-with-ness," in which nature, sensuality and spirituality are inextricably bound.
