STACEY BILLUPS

Brooklyn-based artist Stacey Billups is celebrated for her figurative paintings that capture family,
friends, and community members in moments of joy, connection, and restful contemplation. Rooted
in exploring everyday beauty, her work invites viewers to reflect on the joy and wonder of life's small, seemingly ordinary moments.

Billup’s artwork seeks to reclaim and celebrate narratives often overlooked in mainstream
representations of Black and Brown lives. Her vibrant compositions highlight the richness of daily
pleasures—savoring a quiet cup of coffee, gathering with loved ones, or strolling along the beach. “Beauty can be found in these little slices of the human experience, connecting the viewer to my
subjects and their stories.”

Working across various mediums, including oil, watercolor, gouache, and drawing, Billups employs a
vibrant palette to convey the spirit and vitality of her subjects. Her artistry resonates with a universal
sense of humanity while offering a deeply personal glimpse into her world.

Billups’ work has been showcased in prestigious group exhibitions including the 2025 Black Creativity Juried Exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and the 2024 Every Woman Biennial at LaMama Galleria in New York. Other notable exhibitions include M’dear: Exploring The Black Maternal at MoCADA Abolition House on Governors Island in 2023 and Healing and Hope at Kente Royal Gallery in Harlem, New York. In 2022, her work was publicly displayed through Arts Gowanus in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and at the citizenM Hotel in Miami, Florida.
Her art has also been recognized in leading publications like Uptown Magazine: Martha’s Vineyard Edition (August 2023) and USA TODAY: Best Years Magazine (August 2020).
