JULIA BELMORE

Julia Belmore was born in Tkaronto/Toronto and is currently based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal. She graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in Sculpture in Spring 2026. Julia transforms everyday objects into uncannily familiar forms, manipulating scale and material to disrupt recognition and invite closer investigations. She is a recipient of the Elspeth McConnell Fine Arts Award which funded her internship with Centre d’art daphne. This past winter she exhibited her work at VAV Gallery, Les Forges de Montréal, and L'espace Morphese. In October 2027 her work will be exhibited solo at Gallery Produit Rien. 

 

Working primarily with metal and fibre, her technical practice consists of welding, casting, and felting techniques to create material tensions. Through her practice Julia calls attention to the relationships between our lives and the built environment, bodies of labour and systems of communication. She explores themes of discovery, personal and collective memory, tied to familiar forms and Chinese-Canadian culture.
