MARTIN VUONG

Martin Vuong is an emerging oil painter based in Ottawa whose portrait work explores heritage, community, and cultural identity through a diasporic lens. Blending surreal elements with archival references, his paintings translate personal and collective histories into visual narratives that center overlooked stories.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Vuong’s practice is shaped by the city’s bilingual and multicultural character. A graduate of the University of Ottawa’s BFA program, his work has been exhibited at Wallack’s Gallery, Gallery 115, and Galerie Annexe, and is held in private collections in Ottawa and Calgary.

Supported by grants from the Ontario Arts Council and Ottawa Arts Council, Vuong is currently in residence at Kunstraum in NYC, where he is developing a new body of work on French colonialism in Vietnam.
