Laura Mychal combines recycled materials, paint, and a celebratory abstract expressionism to comment on climate change and environmental pollution. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Laura grew up surrounded by woods and the ocean. After studying painting and sculpture at Mills College, where she received her BA in Studio Arts, her interest in humanity and the environment led her to Peru where she served as a Peace Corps volunteer. She led recycled art and mural initiatives and and worked with an Andean village to spread environmental awareness and sustainability. Laura also holds a MA in Education from the University of Arizona where she studied community art education on Fellowship. Since moving to New York City, Laura has continued working as a teaching artist and her current paintings experiment with found materials, and suggest how our lives are intertwined with these environmental concerns.
