Judy Giera

Judy Giera is an interdisciplinary painter and performance/video artist.  Her work expresses the corporeal existence of transgender bodies as they relate to larger conversations on queerness, feminism, gender, and sexuality.  Digging into imagery from her own experience as a medically transitioning, transgender woman and taking inspiration from the trans community that surrounds her, Giera is interested in fragmented yet distilled depictions of transgender bodies and narratives in order to propagate transgender visibility and express the multitude of nuance within the trans experience, particularly those of transgender women including herself.  Her work output includes paintings, drawings/collages, prints, zines, and videos/performances.  JP-Anne holds an MFA in Theatre from the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University, an MFA in Art (Painting) from Lehman College/CUNY and she spent a year in the graduate Performance Studies program at Pratt Institute.  She has performed throughout the country and in 2019 Art511 Magazine named her one of NYC's top 10 artists to watch.  Giera resides in Brooklyn with her two cats.
